Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior representative commented the incident left him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
