The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between spirituality and money, the winner is obvious for materialism in Showalter's wonderfully garish film adaptation of the disgraced religious broadcaster plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who declares early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals set about capitalizing on the nation's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, overdone appearance and bad faith, yet Jessica Chastain achieves to depict the character with compassion. Tuesday 14 October, late night, on Film4
